Against the challenging background of the COVID-19 pandemic, Portugal’s main priority is to reinforce Europe's resilience and confidence in the European social model, by giving impetus to the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and the Commission's Action Plan. The programme of the Portuguese Presidency will also focus on:
- Implementing the MFF and NextGenerationEU
- Fostering European leadership in the digital economy
- Strengthening EU’s global leadership and relationships with its international partners, placing Africa at the top of the external agenda; emphasis on the Southern Mediterranean, Latin America, the Eastern Partnership and India; a strategic partnership with the United Kingdom; the transatlantic links
digital EBD Briefing: Portuguese EU Council Presidency on 13 January 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
H.E. Francisco Ribeiro de Menezes, Portuguese ambassador in Germany will present the programme of Portugal’s council presidency. Andres Peschke, head of the European Directorate-General at the Federal Foreign Office and Dr Kirsten Scholl, head of the Department for European Affairs at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy will subsequently asses the working programme from the perspective of the Federal German government. Dr Jörg Wojahn, representative of the European Commission in Germany and Christian Petry MP, vice-president of EM Germany will then open the discussion. Bernd HüttemannSecretary General of EM Germany will moderate the event.
